PROJECTS OF THE
GOLDEN POND GROTTO

The Golden Pond Grotto is currently involved in several active caving projects.  In January 1998, the GPG commenced a survey of Constantine Saltpeter Cave, located in Hardin County, Kentucky.  Nearly finished, the survey total stands at over 1.46 miles.  Currently, the GPG is mapping Cool Spring Cave, Trigg County, Kentucky.  Cool Spring is one of Western Kentucky's longest caves.  So far the GPG has mapped 1.51 miles in this cave.  The GPG also takes an active role in cave conservation.  Cool Spring Cave is the site of an ongoing cave cleanup project.  In March 1999, many bags of trash and other refuse were removed from in and around the cave.  Water quality monitoring is also a part of our conservation measures, and several members are currently taking part in the Kentucky Division of Water's Four Rivers Watershed Watch project.
